golfzmark asked: I just turned 22 and have been diagnosed with a learning disability since I was a little kid. I figured that as time went by I would eventually out grow it and become a “normal adult”. Well it hasn’t quite played out as I planned. I’m currently enrolled at Oregon State University but I’m having a very tough time as I struggle greatly in memory, SPELLING, and communication. It is really starting to pull me down. I come from a very successfully family and I’m VERY motivated. It’s so hard when I can’t get a basic job because of my awfully communication skills and poor writing ability. I feel like I’m letting my family down and more importantly MYSELF. If anyone has been in the same boat as me or has a good knowledge on adult learning disability please provide information on how I can go about overcoming this monster. Thanks
-A lost and confused individual
I thank those who have provided there insight on what to do. To Kyles comment, the main thing that has kept me alive is my support system, my family is very supportive and understands the situation I’m in as my older brother is also struggling (not as bad). I can honestly say that I would not be here today if it wasn’t for this support system. None the less I Will try to support myself more and take it one step at a time.

♫Sweetness♫ asked: I will read the same book 10 times then 2 weeks later will not remember most of what i read. When i was in school i would be in class, the only student paying attention but what my teacher is saying will go in one ear out the other but i’m listening to her like what she was saying was going to save my life and i still can’t retain it.
I lose soo many job opportunities because of this, while in training for a job i can’t concentrate and have the trainer explain over and over again. I tend to be a visual person if you want me to do something right teach me hands on and let me watch you kinda thing, but if you tell me ohh boy i’m loss.
Any suggestions or pointers on how to deal with this learning disability , i’m not stupid just can’t retain info. Please help thanks
Eric

Chris C asked: My son is having emotional issues that are hurting his school work. We’ve tried some meds, counseling, etc. Now they’re suggesting this school-in-a-hospital program, but I’m worried it could throw him even further out of the norm.
Anyone have a kid that’s gone to this? Does it help? Do they get back into the regular school system afterwards? Are they better? Any information would be much appreciated, thanks.

Kayla is fine now =) asked: Okay. I am going to be candid with everyone. I am in my first year of college. I attend a county college. In high school they told me I had a slight learning disability. Whenever I take “state” tests, I always fail. I always get in the 60’s and in college you have to get a 70 or better. I am not supid, I can’t seem to open my brain up enough to really learn the material….I was thinking maybe I take Adderall. I heard it’s for people who have ADD or ADHD. I need to know, is there any medication I can take to make my brain take in more information? I need honest answers. Thank you
mature answers please
Philip

Mifune asked: I am worried that I have some type of learning disability.
My girlfriend asked me to “draw” a circle with one finger on one hand, and a triangle with the other. No matter what, I could not do it, while she could do it with ease.
I also notice that I have constantly had trouble playing my piano(10 years+). While I enjoy playing it, I can only play after having memorized (muscle memory) the notes. I cannot seem to read treble and bass clefs simultaneously and coordinate my hands at the same time. If it is just reading notes for one hand, I can play anything very well, but if it is both…then there are major problems.
Is there a problem with how my brain processes information, or am I just being a hypochondriac?

OH83 asked: - I always space/zone out, specially when driving.
- It takes a lot of my energy to focus during lectures, it becomes very exhausting for me after about 40min.
- I sometimes forget to pay my bills.
- When reading I tend to always read the same paragraph 2-3 times because I forget what I just read. When reading textbooks (college student) it takes me even longer to fully grasp the information, which by then I am already irritable and frustrated for now getting it the first time around.
- I take a long time to finish a task when it should only take me a few minutes. For example, during Bio or Chem labs I can’t work in groups or when everyone is around me making noise because I become distracted and very anxious. So instead of me reading the lab manual for instructions I ask the lab instructor to verbally give me some guidance to begin the experiment.
- During exams I NEVER have enough time and because of the pressure I go into this anxiety episode (or at least I think that’s what it is) and I end up doing stupid mistakes on my exams. I swear if I were to take those exams, put me in a room, and told me I had as much time as I needed my grades would be a lot better.

Carly asked: What are the symptoms? I seem to have a learning or remembering disability or something. I can’t seem to pay attention or “absorb” any information and I can’t remember what people tell me like right after they tell me. Anybody like this?
